How to Hide Notification Previews on Your iPhone Lock Screen

If you're wary of other people looking at your notifications, whether intentionally or not, the iPhone has a quick solution for hiding them without turning off notifications entirely.

Notifications from apps you use for personal messaging, banking, investments, and work may contain sensitive or confidential information that you want to hide from prying eyes.

This includes text previews from messaging apps like Messages or invite details from Calendar. On the other hand, you may not be as concerned about notifications from your gaming and leisure apps.

With your iPhone, you can customize the notifications for each app so that you can hide notification previews from certain apps and not from others. You can even stop iPhone notifications from appearing altogether.

To hide notification previews for a specific app:

Go to Settings > Notifications.
Scroll down and find the particular app you want to modify.
Tap Show Previews. Choose between When Unlocked and Never.

Choose Never if you don't want the notification preview to show even after you unlock your device.

Choose When Unlocked if you want the notification to appear on your Lock Screen without displaying any content. On iPhones with Face ID, glancing over your device can unlock it to reveal the notification preview. Meanwhile, if you have a device with Touch ID, you need to place your finger on the Touch ID sensor before you can see the notification preview.

If you want to stay on the safe side, you can hide the notification preview for all of your apps. To do this:

Go to Settings > Notifications.
Tap Show Previews.
Choose When Unlocked or Never.
